IdahoSTARS-approved distance learning provides an opportunity to:

  • Receive IdahoSTARS training hours in the comfort of your home.
  • Work at your own pace.
  • Receive training in a training topic which is not available locally.

Lending Library Training

These lessons are available for check out through your regional CCR&R office:

  • Early Childhood Environment Rating Scale (ECERS): Five training hours in Component 5, Observing, Recording and Assessing Child Outcomes
  • Family Child Care Environment Rating Scale (FCCERS): Five training hours in Component 5, Observing, Recording and Assessing Child Outcomes
  • IdahoSTARS Emergent Literacy: Lessons on Literacy DVD: Five training hours in Component 2, Environment, Curriculum and Practice (there are four training opportunities offered in English and Spanish) each worth five training hours, for a possible total of twenty training hours)
  • Infant/Toddler Environment Rating Scale (ITERS): Five training hours in Component 5, Observing, Recording and Assessing Child Outcomes
  • Welcoming All Children: Creating Inclusive Child Care: Ten training hours in Component 9, Special Needs, offered in English and Spanish

Note: To receive training hours for completing a Lending Library Training DVD Lesson you must complete the Reflective Evaluation two weeks after the training.

Tearless Discipline on DVD series with Vivian Brault

Discover the effectiveness of the mutually respectful "Tearless" approach for guiding the social/emotional development of children ages 2-12. Based on the internationally-acclaimed work of Dr. Rudolph Dreikurs, this practical course provides a basic understanding of child behavior and motivation.

Participants learn to:

  • Prevent behavior problems as well as how to implement non-punitive "Tearless" Discipline that gets results without tears, tantrums or rebellion.
  • Learn methods that are immediately useful for setting effective limits, eliminating power struggles, and gaining cooperation without reminding or yelling-while stimulating self-discipline, self-reliance, and self-esteem.

Note: This training is also offered face-to-face, however participants may only receive IdahoSTARS training hours for the online OR the face-to-face training.
To receive training hours for completing the Tearless Discipline Training you must complete the Reflective Evaluation two weeks after the training.

Building Blocks for Literacy

Lee Pesky Learning Center, in partnership with the Stern Center for Language and Learning, is pleased to announce the online version of Building Blocks for Literacy®. The Building Blocks course, a professional development program for early care and education providers, is open sourced; the content is available at no cost.

Participants in this online opportunity have the option to:

  • Receive 12 Professional Development Hours or Continuing Education Credits for $50 through the Stern Center.
  • IdahoSTARS training hours are also available, but participants will need to submit the continuing education certificate mentioned above to the IdahoSTARS.

Note: This training is also offered face-to-face, however participants may only receive IdahoSTARS training hours for the online OR the face-to-face training.
To receive training hours for completing the Building Blocks for Literacy Training you must complete the Reflective Evaluation two weeks after the training.

Smart Horizons

Smart Horizons Early Childhood Professional Series started due to the need for consistent early childhood education for early care professionals. Smart Horizons offers options when it comes to delivering early childhood professional development. Courses meet continuing education requirements.

All courses earn Continuing Education Units (CEUs) and meet the professional development requirements for a CDA Credential or CDA renewal. Smart Horizons has been approved as an Authorized Provider by the International Association for Continuing Education and Training (IACET)

Post Approval Training Request

Did you attend a quality training that you think should be IdahoSTARS approved?

Use the Post Approval Training Request process to request training hours for attending a training which was not IdahoSTARS approved.

Reading books, using and implementing curriculums, watching DVD’s, and most webinars are not eligible for Post Approval training hours. IdahoSTARS will provide training hours to webinars presented by the University of Idaho Center on Disabilities and Human Development and Tom Copeland. Please remember that submitting trainings for Post Approval hours does not guarantee that you will receive the hours; it is a request for training hours.
