Acetaminophen Oral Suspension Concentration Changes for Infants

The makers of over-the-counter (OTC) liquid acetaminophen medications will no longer produce their products in concentrated infant drops. Therefore, there are new dosing directions for these products that parents and child care providers need to know (see the charts listed below).  New infant's acetaminophen oral suspension concentration is now available on store shelves, but some parents and caregivers may still be using the old, more concentrated infant's acetaminophen drops.  For children less than two years of age a physician’s prescription is required.

Important Tips for Parents and Caregivers:

Infant’s acetaminophen concentrated drops are 3X more concentrated than acetaminophen oral suspension

Always read and follow the dosing instructions on the label

Always call your healthcare provider if you have any questions

Keep medicines out of the reach of children

Never give adult medicines to children
